Scout's meme
When I read this meme, and Scout's (www.soutj.com) post, I knew I had to do it.
Scout’s Meme:
1. How and when did you learn how to knit/crochet? Who taught you?
My mother taught me to knit when I was about 6 years old. She was quite the expert knitter. I lost her to a stroke when I was 11, so knitting has always been a way for me to connect with her and her memory. Whenever I missed her, I'd go knit or draw or or sew, a few of the creative talents she honed in me.
I later brushed up and re-taught myself how to knit more complicated things (beyond the rectangle).
2. How has this craft impacted your life? (besides financially!)
It's a great way for me to utilize my architectural 3-D space visualization skills and artistic background in something that is instantly gratifying and that I can wear! And I love being able to make presents for others. I keep surprising myself every time I learn something new, a new stitch, a new pattern. And I am glad that I can still do something my mom taught me. I still use her old needles, so it is cool to carry this on. I hope I have a daughter who is into knitting!
3. Pick at least one person to talk about who you have met through the knit-world and why you are thankful to have met them. Feel free to get all mushy.
Hmm.... I have not met any one person in particular through the knit world. I did attend my local SnB a couple of times this summer and have not been back since Grad school is kicking my ass. But, I liked all the ladies there and would like to get to know them better and get my butt into a knitting group as soon as time permits.
What has surprised me is how many people around me knit that I didn't know were knitters at first- my friends Meredith and Berna, in particular. And my fiance's grandmother crochets, and his aunt knits. It's fun to gab about projects and have show-and-tell when I see them.
4. Comment and let me know when you post this in your blog so I can read them all.
Okey-dokey!
